Why am I even here?
Fair question. A lot of adults just say “because you have to.” This page tries to give you a real answer, with real prices for the stuff you want.
You’re not the only one. In 5th grade, 3 out of 4 students say they’re into school. By 11th grade, it’s about 1 in 3.

So if school feels pointless, nothing is wrong with you. The question is what you can get out of the time you’re already spending there.

What school is actually for
Options
A diploma keeps doors open: jobs, trade programs, the military, college. You don’t have to know what you want yet. You just don’t want doors shut before you get there.
Practice
Reading hard stuff, explaining your thinking, solving problems you’ve never seen. Those carry into every job, even if the exact worksheet doesn’t.
People
One adult in your corner can change a lot. So can friends who push you. School is where most people find both.
Proof
Finishing shows an employer you can stick with something for years. That’s rare, and they know it.
The part adults don’t always admit
Some of it really is boring. Some of it you won’t use. That’s true. You don’t have to love every class. You just have to figure out which parts are worth your effort for where you want to go.
First: what’s your number?
How much do you earn now, or plan to earn as an adult? Take a guess. There’s no wrong answer, and nobody sees it but you.

Without the diploma, that money isn’t there. That’s the difference between having a car and taking the bus.

Left side: what people typically earn. Right side: what you need to earn to afford something on one paycheck. Anything below your rung is in reach.
A starter home is out of reach on one typical paycheck at every level. Most first-time buyers do it with two incomes.

If it’s more than boredom
Sometimes school feels pointless because of something bigger: stuff at home, feeling down for a long time, getting picked on, falling so far behind it feels hopeless. That’s not a motivation problem. Talk to a school counselor or an adult you trust.
